Race report: ITU Long Distance World Championships Pontevedra 2019

Long distance world championship under the ITU was one of the targeted races for 2019. Jaroslav worked his way through the race exactly as planned and in a close battle managed to win the podium. With a great time of 05:12:02 he was only beaten by a Spanish duo Noya and Gonzalez.

Following the race, Jaroslav explained how the race unfolded: “During the swim I tried to stay with the lead group, but the specialists for shorter distances were just a bit too fast. During the bike leg I showed how fast I am and with the superb equipment I currently use I was able to finish the course as one of the fastest and start the run on the second place. The last part was a real battle. Chasing the guys in front of me and trying to escape from the guys behind me, I managed to place myself 3rd in the last kilometres by only 7 seconds in front of a Dane Kristian Høgenhaug. With great optimism I’m looking forward to the season.”

Jaroslav now has 14 days of rest before Ironman Lanzarote where the ambition is to win the race, but more importantly, get a slot for the Ironman World Championship Kona, Hawaii.
